 1Peter 2:9

But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood,

an holy nation, a PECULIAR people; that you

should show forth the praises of Him who has

called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.

We get our privileged new position in Christ as Peculiar people because He called, saved, delivered, transferred or transported us from the kingdom of darkness( Sin and anything that has the appearance of sin) into His marvelous light (righteous and transparent living).

Once we are in the light, the light exposes the dirt and sinful lifestyle of our past with strong commandments from our savior to live the new lifestyle in the kingdom of light that will reflect the character of God. This lifestyle is completely opposite to the sinful way of life so much that the world sees you as awkward and strange with distinct character from all others. defines peculiar as belonging solely to an individual, not possessed with others, not owned in common with others. We belong distinctively and solely to God.

The word peculiar as used in 1 Peter 2:9 denotes a people for God’s own possession, a special possession or property. The church is the “property” of God. His “purchased possession” (Ephesians 1:14).

Titus 2:11-14 say that the grace of God that bring salvation appeared to all men  with the intent that God will redeem us from all iniquity and unrighteousness and purify unto Himself a “PECULIAR PEOPLE” whose lifestyle will be looked upon as bizarre, strange, extraordinary, exceptional, unique, peculiar even radical in the eyes of the world.

That’s because we are God’s property and must and should live this unique way of life.

It is through this unique way of life that we shine as lights in the world and live as the salt of the earth and most importantly impart the world with the truth and the character of God.

Everything God created including man is for His pleasure to give Him worship Rev 4:11. Even the heavens declare the glory of God Psalm 19::1

For His redemptive purpose God chooses certain individuals, family or even a nation to fulfill his purpose through. Who ever God chose has certain blessings of privilege from Him. It is not that the chosen are better preferred than the others but just that God through them establish principles and lessons that would be example for all generations.

In 1 Peter 2:9 any person delivered from the power of darkness into God’s marvelous light or saved from sin into righteousness is a chosen generation. He becomes God special child, a peculiar person, God’s treasured inheritance, the apple of His eye Zechariah 2:8. His name is written in the palm of His hands Isaiah 49:16. God uses such persons for unique assignments with privileged blessings. 1 Peter 2:9 says God chooses us to declare His praises.

God reveals Himself to His chosen generation for them to know Him (Jeremiah 31:31-34) with the essence that they may do exploits Daniel 11: 32.

Chosen generations are God’s battle axe and spiritual weapons of mass destruction Jeremiah 51:20-23

  • In Nehemiah 9:7 we read that God chose Abraham and for the privilege of being chosen revealed His mind and intentions to Abraham regarding the future of Sodom and Gomorrah. (Genesis 18:17-19).

  • In Genesis 14:14-16 Abraham fought together with his trained servants and won the battle.

  • In Acts 2 God used a chosen generation to give birth to the church and advance His kingdom whiles in Acts 4:23-31 this chosen generation used their privileged position and prayed for boldness to do exploits for the kingdom of God.
